About Steve McKee, MSSW

Steve McKee, MSSW founded Social Impact Consulting in 2001 to help organizations and communities formulate strategy, successfully manage change and achieve social impact. He brings expertise in consulting, facilitation, training and coaching to a range of public and nonprofit organizations.

I have more than 40 years experience dealing with the complexities involved at all levels of organization leadership and change management, including the challenges involved in negotiating strategic partnerships and legal mergers. My interest in finding solutions to the mental health issues faced by adolescents led me to found Pathways Community Counseling, a nonprofit using experiential therapy approaches to engaging hard to reach teenagers. Pathways received recognitions from the National Institutes for Health, the U.S. General Accounting Office, the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention - OJJDP.

In 1997 I co-founded LifeWorks, a leading provider of mental health, emergency shelter, transitional living and education services for youth and families in Austin, Texas.

I hold a graduate degree in social work from the University of Texas Austin and served on the faculty as a lecturer teaching courses in clinical social work and organization and community practice. I hold certifications from the IBM Leadership Development Program (Armonk, New York) and the Certificate Program in Administration of Non-Profit Organizations (the University of Texas at Austin). For ten years I served on the national review committee for the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Exemplary Program Committee.
